Jennifer Wagner

Instructor of Voice

My Background: I have been a musician all of my life and began singing as soon as I could talk. Since then I have confidently picked up the piano, flute, and violin and enjoy all styles of music! I have been teaching voice and flute lessons for four years and received my BA in Vocal Performance and Biology-Chemistry from Manchester University in Indiana. I am currently earning my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from University of Northern Colorado and work an assistantship with the opera and music departments there.

What I love about teaching: I love watching my students learn how music can make a positive impact in their lives and the lives around them! It is so satisfying to see a student finally gain the confidence on a skill they struggled with or sing the highest note of the song as easily as every other note. Everyone has their own unique and exciting journey with music, and I love being able to be a supportive mentor through that process! 🙂

One way I help my students succeed and flourish: I strive to create a productive learning environment for eager students of all ages with a passion for growing mentally, emotionally, and socially as both a musician and a human being. I strive to not only teach, but mentor and act in any other role necessary such as guide or gatekeeper to help the student’s overall growth, success, and happiness.

Performance Experience: My performance experience began by singing on my parents’ church choirs starting around age 3. When I began private lessons in middle school for flute and piano, I was always nervous about the recitals, but ended up loving them and feeling great after performing for my friends and family! This prompted me towards my performance degrees in college with a focus on opera, although I also love performing jazz, musical theatre, and much more! Some of my favorite roles have been “Lauretta” in Gianni Schcchi, covering “Angelica” in Suor Angelica, “Queen Aggravain” in Once Upon a Mattress, and “Stage Manager” in Our Town.
