My Background: I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t doing something musical! I started piano lessons at age six and joined a private choir at age 11. My love for piano and singing continued through middle and high school and I eventually went on to get my Bachelors in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado. During that time, I developed and maintained a music studio out of my home and directed as many musical groups as I could. My directing experience spans from beginning to advanced high school choirs, jazz groups, and small chamber ensembles, to church choirs and community choirs. Additionally, I have a Masters in Business Administration which I am using to run my own marketing agency that specializes in marketing artists, FINALLY combining my two passions of music and marketing!
What I love about teaching: When I was growing up, my music teachers were the greatest support system I could have asked for outside of my family. There were many times that I needed an extra push or for someone to believe in me and encourage me. My favorite part about teaching is that I get to be that for my students. Due to the nature of lessons, we get to develop a special relationship with our students that other teachers might not. It’s so fulfilling.
One way I help my students succeed and flourish: I am a huge goal-setter and I know my students can benefit from this as well. Sometimes, being so close to achieving a goal can be that little dash of motivation a student needs. I also believe in documenting “wins” so that at the end of the year (or any time you need the reminder) the student will be able to see all they have achieved with a quick glance. I also think it is important to adapt and meet students where they are. It is possible for them to learn technique through some of the more mainstream music they are interested in. Engaging them in creative ways encourages them to want to play outside of the lesson and enjoy what they’re doing!
Performance Experience: My performance experience is primarily in voice and ranges from opera to chamber work. I have toured 5 countries throughout Europe performing in operas, and will be going to two more countries in the summer of 2023! Additionally, I specialize in music of the Holocaust and was headed to Thailand to give a recital and do a couple masterclasses with the University there right as Covid hit. (I’m still holding out hope that this will happen someday!)
Hometown: I’m from Southern California but moved to Broomfield, CO. when I was 5
My Musical Influences: Bach, Bach, and more Bach! 🙂 I love chamber music
Favorite hobby or activity when not teaching or playing music: Graphic Design and playing with my puppy, Paxton
Favorite food: Tacos
