STUDENT SPOTLIGHT – Dylan Frederick-Law

Wednesday March 4, 2020

This month, we’re excited to highlight guitar student Dylan Frederick-Law!

Dylan has been with Flourish Music Academy for over 3 years. We always enjoy hearing him play at dress rehearsals and recitals! He is a freshman at Greeley Central High School, where he plays classical guitar in the wind ensemble.

Mr. Thomas (Dylan’s teacher) says Dylan is a VERY intelligent and well-practiced student. One of his current projects is transcribing a harp part for guitar!

Read the interview below to learn more about Dylan.

How long have you taken guitar lessons?

5 years.

What do you love about playing guitar?

I like being able to play music.

You currently play classical guitar in your school’s wind ensemble. What’s that experience like? How is it different from playing solo guitar?

Playing in Chamber Orchestra is challenging because I have had to learn how to play with other people and I have never really done that before. Performing solo guitar has its owntrials—it takes a lot of courage to be all by yourself on stage.

What do you like about Flourish?

I like the amount and variation of different performance opportunities we get at Flourish. I also really like my teacher, Mr. Thomas. I like my other teacher (Mr. Teague) too. They are different from each other and I have learned different, great things from both of them.

What else do you like to do?

I like to participate in Acting at Greeley Central. I also love board games. I really love reading too. Math is one of my strengths and I like to figure out how things work.
