This month, we’re excited to feature voice student Makena Cerullo!
Makena is a 5th grader at Windsor Charter Academy. She studies voice with Ms. Julie at Flourish. Makena loves musical theatre, and she recently played Mrs. Mayor in A Dance Place’s production of Seussical Jr.! (See photos from the production below.)

Here’s what Ms. Julie had to say about Makena:
“Makena is such a joy to teach! She always makes me laugh in our lessons. She has a big voice for her age, and is already familiar with lots of musical theatre repertoire. I think Makena will grow to be a very expressive singer and actress!”
Read our interview with Makena below.
How long have you taken voice lessons?
About 9 months.
What do you love about singing?
I love that it makes me less stressed out, and that I sing songs that relate to me.
You recently played Mrs. Mayor in Seussical Jr.! Tell us more about that experience.
In the show, I had to pretend to mop the stage. When I said my lines, I acted like my mom! I thought that was funny. One challenging part was when I had to harmonize with Mr. Mayor.
What do you like about Flourish?
I like how me and my music teacher always laugh when I’m in lessons. I also like the songs that I learn.
What else do you like to do?
I like to draw, play video games, watch YouTube, and take dance lessons.
