Student Spotlight – Mick McCaskill

Wednesday February 1, 2023

This month, we’re excited to feature Piano student Mick McCaskill!

Mick is a student of Ms. Julie and here is what she had to say about Mick:

“He performed memorized piano solos for both of his school’s choir concerts last semester, as well as a duet with the choir teacher. We’ve worked a lot on harmonic analysis, which has helped him memorize pieces faster. He is wonderfully curious and receptive in his lessons; he asks great questions and loves to learn.”

Read our interview with Mick below!

What do you love about playing piano?

I love being able to express myself and create something out of nothing. I like the challenge of working to get better and seeing my progress and doing things I couldn’t before.

What do you like about Flourish?

I like that they let you experiment and can be flexible with how I learn. They still challenge me to be better and push myself.

To play I like Joe Hisaishi’s compositions.

What else do you like to do?

I graduated from Eaton High School this year and lettered in music last year and plan to letter a second time this year.
