This month, we’re excited to feature piano student Pasco Scarpella!

Pasco, a dentist by day, has been involved in music for decades. He studies piano with Ms. Joy, who says that he is a “hard worker and delightful person!”

Pasco is also working on a degree in Music Composition through Berklee College of Music.

Tell us about your musical background.

I have extensive musical background over the past 55 years, playing in various bands and orchestras, as well as performing in musicals. I have been in over 100 plays and musicals, and have been in orchestra pit for twenty musicals. I play clarinet and sax, and I am learning to play piano with Miss Joy. I am a barbershopper too. Right now I am working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Composition with Berklee College of Music in Boston.

How long have you taken piano lessons?

I have taken piano lessons off and on for about twenty years. Unfortunately, I have not continued over the years, so I am still not very good on the piano!

What do you love about playing piano?

I love getting better. I am making slow progress, but since I compose music about 20 hours per week, it is forcing me to be a better piano player.

Ms. Joy tells us that you’re currently working on a degree in music composition. What inspired you to pursue this degree?

I have wanted to major in music since I was in high school. But, life has taken me in some different directions. I decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and earn this degree in Composition and Songwriting.

What do you like about Flourish?

I like the center where everything is under one roof. Miss Joy is a great teacher!

What else do you like to do?

I don’t have much free time, but with what little free time I have I enjoy performing in barbershop events. I also act in real estate videos with Colorado Land Company. I enjoy reading and listening to Broadway shows.
